Associate Engineer (Ops)
Energy Transfer
Owns and operates one of the largest US energy midstream networks transporting and storing gas, oil, NGLs, refined products and LNG.
Provide technical expertise for pipeline ops, integrity, damage prevention, and projects.
Reviewing shallow cover and exposed pipe locations.
Damage Prevention and Public Awareness: Work with area management and Houston Public Awareness manager to coordinate, administer and document contractor, utility, one-calls as well as landowner and other public awareness communications.
In some instances, will estimate and perform modifications.
To ensure proper documentation and proposed plans are forwarded to appropriate departments within the company.
MAOP Reconfirmation: Assist with the development of the Division's MAOP reconfirmation plan. Responsible for estimating and executing required pressure tests.
Welding technical support.
Provide technical expertise in incident investigations.
Mitigating creek crossing issues.
Encroachment Analysis and Remediation: Lead role in addressing proposed encroachment activities by outside parties including landowner actions, road and highway projects, municipal and utility projects, developer, residential projects, etc. Responsibilities will include:
Road and surface load calculations.
To enforce company requirements as needed.
Blasting calculations and precautions.
To act as a liaison between the third party and Operations Engineering and/or third-party engineering when company facility modifications are required.
Pipeline Shut-out Procedures: Responsible for review and approval of pipeline shut-out procedures related to any pipeline outage. Line Cleaning and
Occasional overnight travel may be required.
Assisting with exposed pipe inspection and remediation procedures.
Providing estimation and project management on large remediation, replacement, and revetment projects.
Working with landowners and contractors to address shallow cover.
High Consequence Area (HCA): Review and validate proposed HCA changes.
Review and validate proposed class location changes.
Interaction with Area personnel and Division/Houston GIS to determine the existence of sites or population density that may trigger the extent of existing or creation of a new class location.

The Staff Engineer level requires a bachelor’s degree and 10+ years of relevant job-related experience.
Knowledge of natural gas gathering/transmission/storage operations.
Possess human relations skills to effectively manage construction projects as well as third-party E&C personnel.
Direct interface beyond the initial contact to present clear and consistent company requirements.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to enable incumbent to work closely with the field, Area management, other engineers, landowners, encroaching third parties, and various other internal groups.
Ability to cultivate relationships and partner with business and community contacts to achieve business results.
Ability to explain complex technical data to a wide range of audiences.
Ability to identify solutions to problems with creativity and innovative thinking.
Ability to distill data and analysis into high-level reports and summaries.
The Associate Engineer level requires a bachelor’s degree and 0-3 years of relevant job-related experience.
Knowledge of design and construction of gathering/transmission/storage assets.
The Sr. Engineer level requires a bachelor’s degree and 6-10 years of relevant job-related experience.
Able to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
Ability to represent the company in a professional manner with both private and public entities and officials.
