  • Oversee the processes related to identification, mitigation, and management of critical HSER risks, opportunities, and emerging trends.
  • Effectively builds rapport and appropriately delivers information (oral and written) in a timely, well-organized, thoughtful, and engaging manner.
  • Provide oversight and leadership to the HSER team in their maintenance of strong, constructive relationships with provincial and federal regulatory bodies, industry associations, and community stakeholders.
  • Represent NexGen in HSER matters during consultations, regulatory hearings, and public engagements.
  • Work directly with the NexGen Chief Project Officer to set the strategic direction for HSER across all NexGen Saskatchewan-based activities, ensuring full alignment with corporate objectives and ESG commitments.
  • Plans, manages and follows through to ensure the flow and timely completion of activities to deliver successful work results.
  • Build and lead a high-performing HSER team commensurate with organizational and site-based needs, fostering a culture of ownership, innovation, and accountability.
  • Applies specialized knowledge in own area of expertise and openly shares information and knowledge with others.
  • Ensure HSER compliance with applicable legislation, including permitting, inspections, audits, and reporting.
  • Champion a proactive, behaviour-based, safety-first culture that reflects NexGen’s values, strategic priorities, and commitment to environmental protection and operational excellence.
  • Manage NexGen’s crisis management emergency response planning, including leading training for corporate, office-based, and site-base activities.
  • Oversee the phased evolution of the HSER management system in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and provincial and federal regulations, implementing and sustaining policies, procedures, and metrics that are aligned with best-in-class execution.
  • Oversee the monitoring and continual refinement of leading and lagging HSER key performance indicators (KPIs) and deliver regular executive reports and insights.
  • Maintains quality and safety standards to ensure NexGen's Elite Standards are met across all work streams.
  • Provides clear and informative explanations to support effective decisions in line with company objectives.
  • Direct the development and execution of site-specific HSER strategies in collaboration with Project, site, and operational leaders.
  • Manage, develop, and provide leadership to NexGen’s HSER team, including supporting continual development and coaching/mentoring of workforce department manager/area leads as it relates to HSER responsibilities.
  • Provide executive oversight for all serious incidents and high-potential HSER events, ensuring investigations are conducted with rigor, root causes are identified, and effective corrective actions and lessons learned are implemented to prevent recurrence.
  • Direct Company-wide HSER risk and hazard identification and mitigation processes, including overseeing HSER team participation in engineering and construction reviews.
  • Lead the Saskatchewan-based HSER management team to ensure integration of HSER programs with other functional areas, including Project, site, and other Saskatchewan-based activities.
  • Establish Saskatchewan-wide measures targeting reduction of environmental footprint and enhancement of HSER performance.
  • Communicates in an open candid and consistent manner with impact to inform, enroll, coach, and inspire.

  • Strong knowledge of Saskatchewan and Canadian occupational health, safety, and environmental legislation and regulations and industry best practices.
  • Demonstrated experience leading HSER functions for large-scale projects and operations in a Canadian-regulated environment, with preference provided to experience in the Province of Saskatchewan.
  • 20+ years of progressive experience in health, safety, and environmental leadership roles, including 5+ years at a senior or executive level in the mining, energy, or heavy industrial sectors. Experience specifically within the uranium mining and milling or nuclear industry is considered an asset.
  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Maintains effective and professional approach, demonstrating resilience and accountability in a fluid fast paced work environment.
  • Proven track record of strategic program development and enterprise-wide HSER transformation.
  • Uses creative, conceptual, and/or inductive reasoning.
  • Able to identify, articulate and problem solve for complex situations with consideration for outcomes.
  • Relevant post-secondary education in occupational health and safety, environmental science, engineering, or related discipline. Professional designations (e.g., CRSP, CIH, CSP, P.Eng.) are considered an asset.
  • Experience working with large project teams and multi-stakeholder environments, including with experience working with regulators and Indigenous Nations.
