Helper Residential

Description

The Driver Helper works alongside the Route Driver to assist in the collection of waste and recyclable materials.

The role requires loading and emptying residential and commercial containers into the truck, either manually or with mechanical assistance, and operating a hoisting device to lift bins into the hopper. The helper also supports the driver during backing maneuvers, reports unsafe conditions, incidents, or service interruptions to the Operations Manager or Dispatch, and communicates customer requests. All duties are performed according to WM Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA regulations, and relevant local, state, and federal laws.

• Follow WM Safety, Life Critical Rules, OSHA, and all applicable laws.
• Report unsafe situations, incidents, or service issues to the Operations Manager or Dispatch immediately.
• Attend all required training programs, briefings, and meetings.
• Load and empty residential or commercial containers manually or mechanically into the truck.
• Operate the hoisting device to lift bins into the truck hopper.
• Assist the driver with backing maneuvers and route assistance.
• Communicate customer requests and service interruptions to Dispatch or Operations Manager.
• Perform scheduled duties and assist other drivers as needed.
• Perform physically demanding tasks including lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, and twisting; exposure to dirt, odors, noise, and weather extremes.

Requirements

The position does not require formal education, but applicants must have at least six months of prior work experience. No specific certificates, licenses, or registrations are required.

The job involves significant physical effort, including lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, and twisting objects of varying weight, and requires coordination of arms, hands, fingers, and legs. Workers are exposed to dirt, odors, noise, and varying weather conditions throughout the workday, with effort levels varying by site.
