Description

The Landfill Operations Manager ensures the highest standards of environmental safety and operational excellence by managing day‑to‑day landfill activities, overseeing construction, permitting, leachate and gas management, and maintaining compliance with WM’s Mission to Zero standards and regulations.

Key responsibilities include minimizing operational costs while maximizing productivity, reducing truck turnaround time, accurately tracking waste volume and weight, acting as a liaison for community relationships, monitoring permitting issues, meeting financial review deadlines, overseeing staffing decisions, assisting with budgeting, maintaining site cleanliness, leading safety meetings, providing training, and submitting timely reports.

• Ensure smooth operation of landfill, including construction, permitting, and leachate/gas management.
• Minimize operational costs while maximizing productivity and maintaining safety and environmental compliance.
• Reduce turnaround time for trucks entering and leaving the site.
• Accurately track waste volume and weight.
• Act as liaison for community relationships.
• Actively monitor ongoing permitting issues.
• Comply with WM’s Mission to Zero standards and regulations.
• Meet all financial review dates and corporate‑directed program deadlines.
• Oversee personnel needs: select, coach, train, evaluate performance, and advise on termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
• Assist in the budget process as required.
• Maintain cleanliness and property maintenance through inspections and preventive maintenance programs.
• Conduct and attend periodic safety meetings to foster morale, productivity, and efficiency.
• Provide training and presentations as needed in a positive and professional manner.
• Update and submit required reports promptly.

Requirements

Required qualifications are an accredited bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) or a high school diploma/GED with four years of relevant work experience, and a total of seven years of relevant work experience.

Candidates may need a REAL ID or a TSA‑approved alternative for travel by air or access to federal property.
