Business Unit Leader - Nashville, TN
Bowman Consulting
Provides engineering, planning, and consulting services across various infrastructure sectors.
Lead and manage a business unit, including strategy, budgeting, staff, and deliverables in the land development / AEC industry.
Market clients for future projects. Convert current projects into follow-on projects.
Administer policies and procedures as required.
Carry out management responsibilities including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating and appraising individual performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Assist with the marketing of the firm’s capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships.
Provide oversight and direction of department or business unit including strategy, budgeting, staff, and deliverables.
Measure performance against stated priorities.
In conjunction with Business Operations Manager, review and plan for daily, weekly, and quarterly labor to meet or exceed Business Unit productivity targets.
Mentor less experienced managers.
Develop business unit priorities as they relate to requirements and communicate daily with engineering, quality, finance, human resources, production, and suppliers.
Analyze, establish, and communicate performance standards.
Develop and bring in new projects and work opportunities. Participate in or lead proposal presentations.
Lead the Business Unit in developing and implementing effective systems for improving internal and external quality, cost improvements, and on-time delivery to meet or exceed client requirements.
In conjunction with Business Operations Manager, analyze variable labor costs, including working with management to determine required staffing levels, and support labor reallocation as required.
Working with Regional Manager and Business Unit Operations Manager, ensure all business unit production methods and practices are consistent with internal quality standards and customer requirements.
Develop and maintain leads as well as contacts within the field.
Control the flow of projects and labor utilization in the business unit to maximize productivity and minimize cost while achieving safety, quality, and backlog
Provide effective leadership and act in a manner that maintains a positive, multicultural, and productive work environment with customers, clients, co-workers, and supervisors.

Fifteen or more (15+) years in the land development / AEC industry, of which at least five years successfully leading multidisciplinary teams and/or managing a branch office.
Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.

Primarily local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business.
Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Strong sense of urgency in responding to constituents.
Intermediate to advanced use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
