The position is based in Bismarck, ND, and serves as a Graduate Engineer on water and wastewater projects from planning through design and construction. The role involves contributing independently and collaboratively to project plans and specifications while reporting to a Project Manager or Senior Engineer. The engineer may also act as the resident project representative in the field during construction.
Graduate Engineers deliver professional civil engineering services to clients, encompassing planning, design, specification development, report preparation, construction observation, and overall project management. They maintain frequent communication with supervisors and project managers, attend various internal and client meetings, and support business development through proposal work and client interviews. Over time, they are expected to take on greater responsibilities as the project engineer and on‑site owner’s representative, working closely with Apex team members and adhering to company CADD, handbook, and safety standards.
Candidates must hold a Bachelor of Science in Civil or Environmental Engineering (a Master's degree is a plus) and be eligible for Engineer Intern certification within a year. Required experience ranges from none to five years in the water or wastewater field, accompanied by strong written and verbal communication, detail‑orientation, self‑motivation, and interpersonal skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office is required, and familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or water system modeling software is advantageous.
The role requires a valid driver’s license, the ability to travel and work overtime during construction seasons, and the physical capacity to stand, walk, and lift up to 50 pounds when necessary. Work is performed both in the office and on‑site under normal ergonomic conditions and outdoor environments as dictated by project schedules.
