startup testing
  • Generate documents to be used by operators to verify/assist improvements (example total quality check sheet).
  • Make audit checks of castings, gears, cleanliness, dryness, hardness and appearance.
  • Investigate assignments such as tooling, fixtures, production operations, repair, receiving operations, parts of units in various stages of assembly to insure requirements, and a make nondestructive test.
  • Develop continuous improvement efforts by guiding cross-functional problem-solving teams and by implementing, training and auditing statistical process control (SPC).
  • Follow non-confirming material procedure, make recommendations, and calculations.
  • Investigate a wide variety of assignments, such as tooling, fixtures, production operations, government coded and regulated packaging and shipping operations, instrument calibration and repair and receiving operations.
  • Communicate back to the party being audited, the findings of the audit. Proving out of new and proved operations.
  • Check, audit, measure, record, repair and calibrate precision gauges, measuring devices, including inspection of any special parts, jigs, fixtures, dies, assemblies and tools.
  • Use shop mathematics. Work from prints, tables, charts, codes, regulations and specifications. Use a variety of precision measuring devices.
  • Maintain records, prepare purchase order requisitions for approval by supervision. Identify key characteristics that require operator verification.
  • Maintain surveillance over machines, audit the checking of parts for machining and other related operations.
  • Use related precision measuring tooling, gauges, test equipment, and appropriate material handling equipment.
  • Make surface plate, and optical comparator setups and hardness tests.
  • Audit and verify by performing checks and tests as necessary on startup procedures, detect malfunctions, oil filter and oil levels.

apprenticeship
  • Knowledge of shop practices, machine operation, assembly methods and inspection methods and procedures.
  • Moderate physical effort working continuously with light weight, or frequently with average weight materials while repairing, gauging, inspecting, auditing parts assemblies and tooling.
  • Quality in and perform setups, programming and operation of the coordinate measuring machine. Adjust, calibrate, certify and date instruments.
  • Exposure to lost time accidents where injuries would be severe, such as hand, foot, ear, eye injury when in the vicinity of material handling operations.
  • Considerable judgment to setup sequence of nondestructive test limitations, to plan, perform unusual and difficult work where only general operation methods are available.
  • Analytical ability relative to Statistical Process Control (SPC).
  • Qualify in and perform the following non-destructive examination, procedure: dye penetrant tests and magnetic particle test.
  • Equivalent to training received in a formal registered apprenticeship program.
  • Concentrated mental, visual attention required where work is to make dimensional checks, surface plate, optical comparator setups and visual attention when inspecting complex work with very close limits of high accuracy and quality.
Benefits
  • Normal safety precautions necessary to prevent injury to others, accidents should they occur would be lost time in nature.
  • Relocation assistance may be available. Certain conditions apply.
  • Good working conditions with exposure to shop noises, fumes, dirt but not to the extent of being objectionable.
