Global leader in data center and interconnection services, enabling digital transformation.
The Design Delivery Principal is responsible for delivering a new‑build data centre from master‑planning through construction and handover. The role progresses toward becoming a recognised expert on datacentre design and critically assesses design decisions in consultation with senior staff, applying Equinix standards and country‑specific regulations. The principal also manages relationships with key design partners and equipment suppliers, escalating issues that may impact project delivery.
In the design process, the principal owns and leads coordination with civil, structural, architectural, mechanical and electrical partners to deliver world‑class datacentres focused on technical excellence, resilience and cost management. They contribute to globally standardised tools, work with peers across regions to ensure consistency, and incorporate regional lessons learned. The role also ensures designs meet global standards and business needs for capacity, density and function.
Cross‑functional coordination involves working closely with construction managers, general contractors and subcontractors during construction, documenting and closing out projects, and managing design budgets and change requests with commercial teams. The principal maintains relationships with internal technical staff, external design consultants, construction management, commercial management and regional P&L holders to secure stakeholder buy‑in.
Project management responsibilities include indirectly managing experienced engineering staff in Independent Technical Review and Innovation & Development teams, directly managing the design schedule for assigned projects, and ensuring on‑time creation and review of Basis of Designs, REIC submissions and design documentation for permit and construction sets. The principal stays up‑to‑date on design advancements, ensuring technologies support future data centre needs and feeding relevant information back to construction.
Qualifications include at least seven years of experience in a design‑focused MEP firm, mission‑critical building operator or architectural design practice, with a preferred MSc in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or Architecture (BSc acceptable with extensive experience). Professional registration such as RA, AIA or PE is desirable but not required.
