The Facilities Assistant supports the Facilities Director in maintaining the community, handling minor repairs, and assisting with both large and ongoing maintenance projects.
Daily duties include reviewing the maintenance log, inspecting furniture, performing minor repairs such as faucet washers, window latches, toilet handles, clogged drains, light bulbs, hinges, and handling tasks such as hanging bulletin boards and pictures in suites and offices.
Additional responsibilities involve acting as a liaison with directors and vendors, touch‑up painting, furniture refinishing and moving, proper use of chemical cleaners and power equipment, carpet steam‑cleaning, adjusting HVAC filters, trash removal, outdoor debris cleanup, and documenting major repair needs.
- Review and date each completed task in the daily maintenance log.
- Inspect furniture and schedule vendor cleanings as needed.
- Perform minor repairs: faucet washers, window latches, toilet handles, unclog drains, replace bulbs, tighten hinges, service stand‑alone door locks.
- Hang bulletin boards, pictures, and coat hooks in resident suites and offices.
- Serve as liaison with the Facilities Director, Executive Director, and external vendors.
- Execute touch‑up painting, furniture refinishing, and moving of items.
- Use chemical cleaners and power equipment safely to protect floors and fixtures.
- Adjust heating, cooling, and ventilation systems, including filter changes.
- Gather and empty trash; remove debris from porches, parking lot, and dumpster area.
- Replace community light bulbs.
- Document and notify supervisors of major repair or system addition needs in the maintenance log.

Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED, at least one year of related experience, and knowledge of infection control. They must be able to multitask, manage stress, work flexible hours including weekends, and demonstrate strong written and verbal communication, tact, and a customer‑service mindset aligned with assisted‑living philosophy.
- Steam‑clean or shampoo carpets.
- Hold a high school diploma/GED and at least one year of related experience.
- Understand infection control procedures and the assisted‑living philosophy.
- Demonstrate multitasking, stress management, and flexible availability (weekends/evenings).
- Possess strong written and verbal communication skills and a tactful, customer‑service orientation.
