Defence & Security Structures Technical Lead

Description

The role leads the growth of Structures design revenue within the Defence & Security sector and ensures the quality of project delivery. It supports the implementation of strategy for service excellence and profitable growth, reporting to senior Defence & Security leaders.

Key accountabilities include identifying new revenue opportunities, building client relationships, developing sales strategies, leading proposals, reporting performance, mentoring the team, and ensuring delivery quality.

• Identify and pursue new revenue opportunities and expand the client base in Defence & Security.
• Build and maintain enduring relationships with contractors and primes to ensure client satisfaction and retention.
• Develop and implement effective sales strategies to meet sector targets and ambitions.
• Conduct market research on industry trends, competitor activity, and potential business opportunities.
• Lead preparation and presentation of proposals, bids, and interviews for new and existing clients.
• Provide regular reports on growth, pipeline status, and performance metrics to senior management.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a collaborative high‑performance culture.
• Contribute to the business plan for Structures and ensure team alignment with objectives.
• Maintain deep knowledge of Structures requirements, standards, and value propositions for Defence & Security.
• Ensure deliverables meet company standards and client expectations.
• Motivate and develop a diverse engineering team, reviewing performance and skill development.
• Lead quality delivery and service excellence to drive organic revenue growth.
• Stay informed on defence client needs and market trends to identify emerging opportunities.

Requirements

Candidates need a bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent, at least 15 years of structures industry experience, and five years in Defence & Security. Existing contacts, a proven track record of winning work, deep sector knowledge, and the ability to obtain SC clearance are essential.

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 15 years’ structures industry experience, including 5 years in Defence & Security.
• Existing contacts with contractors or primes in the sector.
• Proven portfolio of successful pursuits and completed projects in Defence & Security.
• Demonstrated track record of winning work with existing and new clients.
• In‑depth knowledge of sector standards and regulations for Structures.
• Ability to obtain Security Check (SC) clearance; DV clearance advantageous.
