Maximizing use of existing design.
Manage assigned tasks, schedule and budget.
To produce application designs and equipment designs that meet requirements utilizing processes based on established engineering principles. Involved with complex and difficult designs.
When required, lead a small team of designers (1 or 5 Designers)
Identify problems or inefficiencies in the department’s operation and suggest improvements.
Selecting an appropriate design approach
Verify that all assigned work has been completed accurately and on time.
Preparing specifications for hardware and/or software components.
Carry out all assigned work efficiently, with a minimum of supervision.
Mentor junior or new members of the department.
Locating and researching source documentation for design activities.
Ensuring that all tasks proceed according to schedule, within budget, and in accordance with all requirements
Making timely decisions, both independently and in concert with others.
Keeping track of progress on all tasks assigned to the team,
Generating accurate, supportable estimates for current departmental technology and providing estimates for technologies that are new to the department.
3 – 12 years related work experience
Well developed verbal skills to interact effectively and professionally in a variety of forums,
Soft Skills
Proficient with the use of development tools, CAD packages (Microstation, AutoCAD)
Rail/Signaling experience is required
Communication Skills
Ability to work in a team environment.
Knowledge of Chorus process is an asset
Good interpersonal and diplomatic skills to deal confidently, courteously, and correctly with people at any level within the organization, and the customer.
In possession or previously possessed CMS Designer or Principles License
Well developed writing skills to prepare clear effective documents.
Demonstrating an advanced level of logical reasoning resulting in effective hardware application designs, products and processes.
Demonstrating a high degree of initiative, and resourcefulness in solving problems.
Technical Skills
Good interpersonal and technical writing skill
Management Skills
Computer literate with knowledge of CAD tools (Microstation, AutoCad), Bills of Materials, (SAP), Configuration Management, (Clearquest), and Microsoft Office suite.
Interpreting and the ability to write Requirements.
Post secondary Technologist diploma or Electrical Engineering degree
