Field Collector

Description

The Field Collector role supports engineering by gathering detailed on‑site telecommunications data. The incumbent validates existing OSP network designs—including aerial, buried, and underground fiber, conduit, handhole, building entrance, and riser facilities—through direct observation, measurement, and documentation.

• Identify, photograph, and document OSP facilities such as cables, poles, terminals, pedestals, and handholes.
• Capture precise measurements of attachment heights, span distances, and distances to property and curb lines.
• Record power and communication utilities, ownership, bonding, grounding, guying, and anchor details.
• Deliver detailed field notes and photos to the engineering team and update job data in Insite.
• Identify obstructions to fiber placement and propose mitigation strategies.
• Read and interpret GIS maps, conduit records, layout drawings, and OSP construction techniques.
• Utilize measurement tools (wheel, height stick, pull finder, GPS, laser rangefinder) and electronic devices (iPad, iPhone, laptop) for data collection.
• Follow OSHA, state, and local safety standards and work safely with or without supervision.

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years experience in fiber‑optic/telecommunications construction.
• High school diploma or equivalent; valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Knowledge of fiber cable design, pole line construction, conduit systems, and right‑of‑way processes.
• Ability to read as‑built prints, identify conflicts, and use GIS/ESRI and shapefiles.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; AutoCAD a plus.
• Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift/move up to 50 lb, walk up to 3 mi on varied terrain, and work outdoors in adverse weather.
• Travel up to 100 % of time, including overnight stays of up to two weeks, with short‑notice deployments.
