What you would be doing

Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
Conduct regular site inspections to identify potential hazards and assess safety risks.
Analyze root causes of incidents and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.
Ensure timely reporting of all safety incidents in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
Promote a culture of safety awareness and accountability across all levels of the organization.
Lead investigations into safety incidents, near misses, and accidents.
Ensure that safety protocols are aligned with regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and Kiewit's safety standards.
Coordinate with regulatory authorities during inspections and audits.
Conduct regular assessments and audits to evaluate adherence to safety standards and identify areas for improvement.
Develop and implement comprehensive safety plans and procedures specific to bridge and marine construction projects.
Stay informed about changes in safety regulations and standards applicable to bridge and marine construction.
Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure safety performance on projects.
Provide guidance on safety-related certifications and qualifications required for specific job roles.
Provide timely and accurate safety reports to project management and senior leadership.
Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees and subcontractors.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction safety management, ideally with a focus on bridge and marine projects, or heavy civil and transportation projects. Demonstrated ability to manage all aspects of a safety program on projects of increasing complexity.
CPR/First Aid, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification and OSHA/MSHA instructor certifications are preferred.
Willingness to travel and relocate to project sites as needed.
In-depth knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety, and WorkSafe BC regulations and other relevant safety standards.
Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment; ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environments.
Professional certification in safety management (ie. NCSO) preferred.
Regular, reliable attendance
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment
Education in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field. Years of experience will be considered in lieu.
Work productively and meet deadlines timely
Good attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
Strong work ethic - Willing to do what it takes to get the job done.
