You will learn a variety of leakage detection techniques such as sounding, correlating, step testing and utilising new leakage technologies, as well as how to differentiate usage from leakage and other network sounds. You'll be expected to carry out dynamic risk assessments and POWRA's to ensure all activities are safe and delivered with minimal customer impact and develop an understanding and capability of available corporate systems.
DMA Leakage Inspectors are responsible for proactively investigating 'Distribution Monitored Areas' using acoustic detection equipment to identify, pinpoint and promote leaks on our distribution network to our service partners for repair. If you have a passion for solving problems, working outdoors (and working at night), understanding how the clean water network operates, dealing with customers and utilising the latest detection technologies, then this role may be for you.
Successful completion of the traineeship includes the minimum of a pass at end point assessment within two years of starting the Apprenticeship (which is the apprenticeship start date). This includes assessments of knowledge, skills and behaviours detailed within the Apprenticeships standard, all of which must be met and agreed by the training provider and line manager within Yorkshire Water before being put forward for End Point Assessment.
Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week. Important Note: You'll be required to work a minimum of 3 nights in a 4-week period.
As a Trainee, you will learn to carry out leak detection and investigation activities on the Water Network to locate and promote leakage to be repaired by our service partners. You will demonstrate the ability to work hard as part of a wider team, solve problems and be thorough to deliver sustainable leakage reduction for Yorkshire Water. This will enable Yorkshire Water to hit challenging Leakage reduction targets.
As our Trainee Leakage Inspector you will learn leakage detection and investigation techniques without impacting on the wider water network.
The successful completion of the traineeship will include meeting the knowledge, skills and behavioural requirements of the Apprenticeship standard and internal expectations plus the successful completion of the end point assessment.

If successful for the role, you will be required to undergo pre-employment checks that will include a Basic Disclosure Check, carried out through a Third-Party Company, prior to commencing employment. Depending on the role, you may also be required to go through the security vetting process for either a Counter Terrorist Check or Security Check clearance.
With the Trainee position, you will work in the field and classroom to work towards a Level 3 Diploma in Water Network – Leakage. This comprehensive qualification combines classroom learning with hands-on field assessments, preparing you for success.
