Managing and optimizing the energy system for a reliable and sustainable future.
The Business Analyst role sits within NESO's small Industry Codes team, part of the Regulatory programme. It focuses on shaping and interpreting changes to technical and commercial industry codes to ensure compliance, enable market evolution, and support strategic alignment with energy regulations.
The position primarily delivers strategic pre‑project analysis for code modification proposals, working either independently or as part of a team depending on the scale. It also supports detailed inflight‑project analysis when modifications progress to delivery within the Regulatory programme.
Work involves close stakeholder engagement with the Market Frameworks team, operational SMEs, and product teams on platforms that may be affected by DD&T impacts. The role operates in an environment of uncertainty due to early‑stage analysis and evolving industry decisions.
Key accountabilities include defining analysis approaches with Market Frameworks, maintaining alignment among code leads and SMEs, conducting high‑level discovery and impact assessments, articulating the impact of proposed changes, performing detailed regulatory project analysis, supporting senior analysts on large initiatives, and sharing knowledge across the team.
The role also entails liaison with power generator owners and manufacturers to provide grid‑code compliance guidance, assess technical data submissions and plant simulations, investigate significant faults, develop and validate network models, and conduct occasional site visits for compliance testing.
The ideal candidate can align diverse stakeholder groups on uncertain, evolving changes, possesses strong technical BA skills to analyse problems and document impacts, communicates clearly both verbally and in writing, learns quickly, shows initiative, and applies holistic thinking.
Essential qualifications are demonstrable Business Analyst experience in an IT/Digital technology environment, a bachelor’s degree or equivalent digital, data, or technology experience, and the ability to obtain and maintain NSV security clearance. Desirable experience includes work in the utility sector or regulated organisations and familiarity with Agile and Waterfall delivery tools.
Benefits include a competitive salary of £50,000‑£57,000 per annum, a performance‑based bonus, 26 days of annual leave, a double‑matched contributory pension up to 12%, and access to career‑development resources, an inclusive community, and a comprehensive total rewards plan.
Applications close on 25 January 2026, but early submission is encouraged. NESO values diversity and offers flexible, tailored support to ensure all employees feel respected, valued, and able to reach their full potential.
