The Concrete Finisher Journeyman (JM) is responsible for leveling freshly poured concrete, grout, and similar materials on floors, walls, ceilings, foundations, and sidewalks. The role requires reading and interpreting measurement tools, project plans, blueprints, and plant coordinates to accurately place, vibrate, finish, repair, and install concrete and related components across a variety of applications.
Work involves up to 12‑hour shifts in changing weather, requiring physical strength to lift objects up to 50 lb, climb, crawl, and work at heights while wearing required PPE. Employees must maintain good housekeeping, adhere to OSHA and company safety regulations, and be able to operate in environments with dust, fumes, loud noise, and extreme temperatures.
- Level fresh concrete, grout, and similar products on floors, walls, ceilings, foundations, and sidewalks.
- Read and interpret measurement tools, project plans, blueprints, and plant drawing coordinates.
- Place, vibrate, finish, and repair concrete in walls, slabs, footings, piers, and other applications.
- Prepare and install grout for steel, equipment, and assist rodbusters.
- Operate hand and power tools, including power trowels and concrete vibrators.
- Inspect finished concrete work and apply hardening agents, sealants, and curing compounds.
- Perform waterproofing, damp‑proofing, and surface restoration tasks.
- Install anchor bolts, steel plates, and other fixtures in freshly poured concrete.
- Saw‑cut concrete and execute patching and sacking activities as needed.
- Direct small crews, mentor journeymen and helpers, and communicate with foremen on issues and safety hazards.
- Follow MIC Health and Safety programs, attend daily toolbox meetings, and use required personal protective equipment.

Candidates must have at least four years of journeyman experience, with Master Journeymen requiring an NCCER‑approved certification. They must understand MIC Health and Safety programs, attend daily toolbox meetings, and provide personal hand tools and safety toe boots. The position demands the ability to work different shifts, overtime, and to direct or mentor small crews under the guidance of a foreman.
- Minimum four years of journeyman experience; Master Journeyman requires NCCER certification.
- Ability to work up to 12‑hour shifts, lift 50 lb, and operate in varied weather, heights, and confined spaces.
