The Sr. Relay Technician leads and supervises electrical testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of protection relays in power substations, using relay test equipment and software to ensure reliable operation of control circuits, transformers, and circuit breakers.

Lead safety briefings and mitigate hazards on site
Apply Human Performance Error Elimination concepts and tools
Analyze protection schemes for power circuits and system components
Install, commission, test, and function‑test substation control circuits, transformers, and circuit breaker change‑outs
Analyze event records to make informed deductions
Develop execution, commissioning, outage sequence, and energization procedures
Manage large‑scale, complex projects
Train and qualify Relay Technician I, II, and Relay Engineer I
Interact with customers and prioritize project tasks
Perform complex troubleshooting and end‑to‑end relay testing using software
Lead investigations and root‑cause analysis of electrical issues
Calibrate and test electromechanical and microprocessor‑based protective relays
Read and verify protection, control, and wiring schematics against standards
Interpret customer requirements and deliver as‑built prints and test results
Utilize manufacturers’ literature to facilitate testing
Troubleshoot distribution and transmission control circuits

Bachelor’s or associate degree in electrical/electronic technology, military experience, or a 4‑year engineering degree (preferred)
5+ years of relevant industry experience
NETA III/IV certification (preferred)
Able to climb ladders, stand for extended periods, and lift 70 lb
