The Director of Finance/Controller leads day-to-day financial operations for a single-family office within a family-owned company, overseeing accounting, bill payment, cash management, investment record-keeping and consolidated reporting across personal, trust, investment and operating entities. The role owns financial processes and controls, ensuring timely, accurate, transparent information while supporting principals and senior leadership.
Key responsibilities include leading general-ledger accounting and financial reporting, managing bill-payment workflows, cash-flow forecasting, treasury and banking relationships, and maintaining internal controls and budgets. The role also oversees investment accounting—recording capital calls, contributions, distributions, reconciling custodial data, and preparing consolidated net-worth reports—while acting as liaison to external advisors. Additionally, the director serves as the primary finance contact for principals, supports trust and estate administration, and ensures separation of personal and entity finances.
Continuous improvement of financial systems, reporting tools, processes and efficiency is expected, along with any other duties assigned by senior leadership.
The ideal candidate holds a CPA and a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance (MBA or MS preferred), and brings 8-12+ years of progressive experience in family offices, closely held businesses or public accounting. They have served as a controller or senior accountant with end-to-end responsibility, deep GAAP knowledge, and expertise handling multi-entity structures such as trusts, partnerships, LLCs and operating companies. Strong organizational, judgment, confidentiality and independent work skills are required.
