The Combustion Turbine Journeyman Electrical position is responsible for following approved procedures for start‑up, shutdown, normal operation, monitoring, servicing, and maintenance of all equipment at the turbine facility. The role requires familiarity with emergency procedures, safety protocols, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Key duties include operating and maintaining substation and turbine equipment, performing Lock‑Out‑Tag‑Out on gas turbines, pumps, valves, and high‑voltage gear, keeping environmental, health and safety records, repairing prime movers, reading OEM manuals and technical drawings, and generating spare‑parts inventory lists.
Basic qualifications are a high school diploma or equivalent, with a 2‑year college degree, technical certificate, or two years of related combustion‑turbine experience preferred. Candidates must hold a Journeyman Electrical skill and possess a valid driver’s license.
Applicants must successfully complete EEI’s Plant Operator Selection System (POSS) and Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS) at the I&C level, be able to work around electromagnetic fields, and meet a 275‑pound weight restriction for equipment handling.
The position is on‑site with rotating shifts, frequent overtime—including weekends and holidays—and may require work at heights, suspended platforms, confined spaces, and exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust, humidity, and EMF. Travel of approximately 5‑15 % is expected for training and support of other Duke Energy sites.
Desired qualifications include competency in electrical, I&C, and operations disciplines, experience with digital control systems (Mark 6/Ovation, T‑3000, Toshiba), PLCs, high‑voltage and substation maintenance, heavy equipment rigging, and proficiency with plant management software such as Maximo and Microsoft Office.
