The Field Technician performs a range of field tasks, including testing, observation, inspection, and quality assurance to ensure safety and proper operations on construction sites. Responsibilities also involve maintaining and repairing infrastructure such as curb stops, fire hydrants, and water mains, as well as documenting work through detailed field notes and daily reports while communicating with supervisors, staff, and the public.
- Perform general construction and field observation and inspection with complete documentation on various projects.
- Conduct field quality assurance for on‑site safety and proper construction operations.
- Maintain/repair curb stops, fire hydrants, gate valves, sanitary/storm sewer mains, water mains and water meters, including compliance testing (training provided).
- Examine structures such as manholes, storm water sewers, and sanitary sewer systems (training provided).
- Operate and maintain all data‑collection instruments.
- Follow security and safety policies, wear required PPE.
- Communicate and interact with the public, city employees, contractors, agencies, and utility representatives.
- Report findings and respond to public inquiries or complaints to the supervisor.
- Prepare legible field notes and daily reports detailing work status, measurements, calculations, quantities, and narratives; save as directed (training provided).
- Use company‑assigned computer, tablet, or cellular device to write memos, inspection reports, and email communications (Microsoft Outlook).
- Effectively utilize appropriate security and safety equipment and procedures.
- Shift focus among tasks on short notice.
- Collaborate with diverse technical and non‑technical personnel.
- Drive a motor vehicle for sample collection, field tests, and inspections.
- Walk long distances regularly.
- Lift or move objects up to 100 pounds.

Candidates should have at least one year of relevant construction experience, a satisfactory motor vehicle record, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to pass a federal DOT drug screening and background check. Proficiency with computers and tablets, basic knowledge of construction tools, and the capacity to work irregular hours are also required.
The role requires extensive outdoor work in extreme heat and cold, with travel up to 100% across multiple states and environments. Physical demands include walking long distances, lifting objects up to 100 pounds, and meeting specific vision requirements for close and distance focus.
