NACG seeks an experienced Journeyperson Heavy Duty Mechanic (Off‑Road) with a service truck to join its remote mining site team near Fort McMurray, offering one of the safest and largest contracts in the region with competitive industry wages.
Candidates must have a minimum of two years post‑journeyman experience on large haul trucks, dozers, graders, or excavators, strong diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities, the capacity to work with minimal supervision, basic computer knowledge, leadership skills, and a valid Alberta Journeyperson Off‑Road Equipment Technician or Red Seal certification; SIS experience and safety‑sensitive site background are assets.
Additional requirements include a current CVIP and picker inspection, oxygen/acetylene cabinets meeting OH&S standards, a full complement of tools for off‑road equipment repair, $5 million liability insurance, and a valid Class 5 driver’s licence with a recent driver’s abstract.
Successful applicants will undergo pre‑employment testing such as breath alcohol, drug, fitness‑to‑work, audiometric, vision, and criminal record checks, and must complete safety certifications (CSO, Silica, Wildlife, OHS, H2S) through Energy Safety Canada; onboarding typically takes 3‑8 business days.
The position is on the Suncor site, working a 14‑day rotation of 12‑hour days (paid for 11.5 hours) on a days/night schedule, with bus transportation from Fort McMurray, no on‑site camp accommodations, and overtime after 8 hours daily or 44 hours weekly.
