Engineering Supervisor

Description

The Supervisor provides leadership, management, and development of a defined team to ensure operational commitments are met and exceeded. The role requires close liaison with employees, clients, and internal senior managers, and a proactive approach to achieve total customer satisfaction while meeting operational and fiscal plans.

• Responsible for the H&S of the sites and engineers.
• Proactively check the operation of the Permit to Work system in accordance with BGIS Quality, Health & Safety procedures and client requirements, especially sub‑contractor adherence to RAMS.
• Proactively check the operation of the LOTO system in accordance with BGIS Quality, Health & Safety procedures and client requirements.
• Ensure sub‑contractors meet contract requirements; administer work approvals and safe operation during repairs or services on site.
• Conduct annual appraisals of shift technicians after completing the BGIS Appraisal and Development training course.
• Maintain awareness and compliance with contractual KPI’s/SLA’s.
• Keep the Computer Based Maintenance system (e.g., Maximo, Concept) up to date and close PPM and reactive tickets with accurate data.
• Work closely with the Area Contract Manager to maintain consistently high service levels.
• Support Contract Support in achieving high levels of customer satisfaction.
• Responsible for statutory and code compliance of sites; ensure engineers are fully equipped for daily tasks.
• Plan PPM schedules with the Area Contract Manager to ensure an even workload across sites.
• Ensure PPM is performed according to manufacturers’ guidelines.
• Manage return of PPM and work‑related documentation; provide day engineer and shift team management.
• Maintain accurate asset registers for all sites and ensure proper labeling.
• Procure materials and services quickly and effectively; proactively source additional work and raise quotations.
• Provide technical support to engineers, the helpdesk, and clients.
• Investigate and report on major operational incidents.
• Ensure all callouts are attended to in conjunction with the helpdesk.
• Promote a health & safety culture across the whole team.
• Assist engineers with PPM as required and maintain regular communication with the engineering team.
• Ensure weekly tasks are completed and help the site manager produce delivery reports.
• Maintain customer service levels.
• Ensure uniforms are worn and in good condition; verify all third‑party contract work is completed.
• Attend all statutory works to understand procedures and provide feedback.
• Escalate quoted works not approved by FM that could impact the business.
• Serve as first point of contact for all in‑hour shift issues and concerns.
• Serve as first point of contact on the escalation path for all mechanical incidents.
• Produce and distribute a weekly report in conjunction with the Area Contract Manager.
• Carry out any reasonable management request.
• Development and review of teams, appraisal, and application of effective people‑management practice (desirable).

Requirements

• On site HV and LV Authorised Person when qualified and on Shift.
• Managerial experience at Manager or Supervisor level within an engineering business is essential.
• Practical experience in supervising and managing a team conducting engineering works.
• Technical experience in building services.
• Delivery of wider facilities management services (desirable).
