Permit Specialist - Utilities (32723)

Description

The Permit Specialist will research municipal, county, state and railroad permit requirements, coordinate preparation and submission of permits, and follow up with agencies to secure approvals before construction. The role involves collaborating with internal teams, clients and consultants, and may require occasional work outside normal business hours and travel across New Jersey.

• Research municipal, county, state, and railroad permit requirements for utility projects (electrical, gas, water).
• Prepare and submit required permits such as municipal building, tree clearing, grading, fence, road opening, zoning, county road, NJDOT highway, and NJTA license to cross.
• Follow up with permitting agencies to ensure timely procurement before construction.
• Collaborate with internal teams, clients, and consultants on project permitting.
• Travel throughout New Jersey to project sites and meet agency representatives (no overnight travel).
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks and meet aggressive schedules.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree and have at least two years of permitting experience, be proficient with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD, and possess strong communication, multitasking and detail‑oriented skills. Knowledge of New Jersey guide‑rail standards and experience with large electric utilities are preferred.

• Hold a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years permitting experience.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD (Civil 3D a plus).
• Demonstrate strong communication and customer service skills.
• Detail‑oriented and schedule‑focused, willing to work outside normal business hours as needed.
• Possess knowledge of New Jersey and MASH guide‑rail design standards.
• Prior experience with large electric utilities is strongly preferred.
• Experience with guide‑rail standards is strongly preferred.
