  • Assist the Substation team with new technologies that include SVC and PST
  • Operate, inspect and maintain substation equipment (4160V- 500KV) associated with the AltaLink transmission system.
  • As required, develop and implement a plan for substation work including review and understanding of work packages and related work practices, procedures, policies/standards and regulations, ensuring that all practices meet or exceed existing requirements
  • Assist the Substations team on Capital upgrade and replacement work.
  • Trouble response for stations facilities in the area.
  • Coordinate and provide emergency responses to system emergencies as required
  • Mentoring junior employees/apprentices as required
  • Provide maintenance planning, schedulers and Altalink Control Center staff with information regarding equipment status and recommend improvements or replacements.
  • Ensure development and documentation of Safe Work Plans as required

  • Strong mechanical as well as electrical aptitude.
  • Be competent and comfortable working with computers and spreadsheets.
  • Must have a valid Class 5 driver's license. Class 1 or 3 licenses would be an asset
  • Must be willing to accept out-of-town working conditions and on-call work
  • Proven track record of good attendance and performance.
  • Must have the ability to work in adverse weather conditions and comfortable working at heights.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to work within strict deadlines.
  • Previous experience operating equipment (telehandler, crane, skid steer, elevated work platforms, etc.) would be an asset
  • Proven ability/experience in the above noted responsibilities.
  • Willing to develop skills and a career in the Substation Technologist/Power System Electrician discipline.
  • This is a physically demanding position. To ensure we meet our safety requirements, you are required to be in good physical condition, have good manual dexterity and physical coordination and meet all physical fitness, medical and weight requirements.
  • Power System Electrician Journeyman Certificate would be an asset.
  • Knowledge and adherence to safety practices, procedures, and standards required
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
  • Graduation from a related and recognized Technologist Diploma program preferably Electrical Technology.

  • Demonstrate a willingness to work safely and show concern for environmental, health and safety issues in the workplace.
