Senior Structural Engineer

Description

• Provides assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project civil/structural requirements and in addressing issues as they arise during project execution​
• Plans, coordinates, or prepares equipment, work and material specifications, bid evaluations and award recommendations
• Leading a small design team of engineers and designers
• Design using international codes and standards
• Designs, develops, modifies, and evaluates civil/structural components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides (including international), Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)​ and Design Control Check List (DCCL) and Design Review Notices (DRNs)​
• Analyses problems with conflicting design requirements, sketches ideas and possible solutions
• Cooperating with other functions (e.g. contracts, procurement) and creating scope of work for service and material requisitions
• Design of a wide range of industrial structures including buildings (covered, opened), material handling structures, equipment supporting structures, building and equipment foundations (including piling), retaining walls, etc.
• Prepares procurement and subcontract requisition documents and performs associated technical bid evaluations with award recommendations
• Designs structures using advanced knowledge of structural analysis
• Plans, schedules, conducts, or coordinates detailed phases of the civil/structural engineering work for a global business unit, a project or staff group to include the preparation of original designs layouts, details, drawings and specifications
• Analyses and reports on the suitability of unconventional materials, techniques and/or difficult coordination requirements
• Design in 3D environment using finite element analyses, dynamic analyses, advanced seismic parameters
• Design using 3D analysis software (e.g. STAAD.Pro, Strand 7)
• Originates and checks complex structural engineering deliverables
• Preparing discipline material take-offs
• Determines the appropriate use of various structural elements such as steel, wood, masonry, and concrete to ensure appropriate material is used based on load or stress requirements
• Completing technical evaluations of submitted proposals

Requirements

• Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience
• Seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of area of specialization, resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways
• Considered highly skilled and proficient in structural engineering discipline​
