Design and make software for architecture, engineering, construction, and entertainment industries.
Interns will design and prototype AI agents using LLMs, vision‑language models, and multi‑agent frameworks, emphasizing robust interaction protocols with external tools such as APIs and databases. They will develop a functional prototype that showcases querying, data analysis, and inter‑agent communication within a real‑world AEC project. Research will include graph‑based querying methods and multimodal data fusion to combine textual, visual, and sensor inputs while addressing domain‑specific nuances. Findings will be documented and shared through reports, demos, or contributions to academic papers.
The construction sector, now a $15 trillion global industry, is rapidly being reshaped by AI, automation, and data‑driven insights. Autodesk Research is looking for a motivated Research Intern to create and prototype multimodal AI agents that can interpret and reason across diverse Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) data. The internship will focus on leveraging large language models, vision‑language models, and knowledge graphs to build agents capable of understanding documentation, images, and sensor streams for autonomous construction‑management tasks.
Candidates should be enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program in Computer Science, AI/ML, Robotics, or a related discipline, with a strong interest in the AEC domain. Proficiency in Python and experience with AI frameworks such as LangChain or PyTorch are required, along with hands‑on work with LLMs and vision‑language models like GPT‑4V, Claude, or Gemini. Familiarity with graph tools (e.g., Neo4j, GraphQL) and multimodal data processing techniques is essential, as is understanding of agent protocols and external API integration. Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and communication abilities are also expected.
Intern compensation is competitive, with U.S. annualized base salaries ranging from $47,840 to $162,240 depending on education level and location. Autodesk is committed to equal employment opportunity and fosters a diverse, inclusive environment where all individuals can thrive. The firm also promotes a culture of belonging and supports continuous learning and growth.
