Assistant Shop Manager

Assist shop manager with equipment maintenance, parts ordering, and mechanic coordination.
Assists in supervision of multiple mechanics and yard employees at any given time
Coordinates effectively with vendors and internal teams
Implements, maintains, and trains operators on operator care standards
Individual will be working with internal customers (Foremen, Superintendents, Project Managers, QC/QA Asphalt Lab, Safety, HR, Accounting, and other Support Departments)
Monitors shop condition, including cleanliness, safety, and the condition of the shop equipment
Assists in sourcing parts efficiently and cost-effectively
Provides technical training and support for both mechanics and equipment operators
Plans and oversees preventative maintenance schedules
Driving: Regular operation of company vehicles and/or equipment as needed.
Assists others in department as needed.
Collaborates with the PM Service Tech to address issues identified during inspections
Builds and maintains positive relationships with mechanics, internal customers, and vendors
Performs periodic machine inspections and supports the Shop Manager in evaluating fleet condition and replacement planning
Maintains appropriate discretion regarding sensitive company information
Communicates with Foremen, Project Managers, and crews to determine equipment repairs or maintenance needs
Monitors telematics data to ensure fleet maintenance exceeds manufacturer recommendations
Tracks warranties and manages associated paperwork
Ensures compliance with all federal and state regulations (e.g., Annual Federal DOT inspections, OSHA, Hazardous Material Disposal, MSDS)
Coordinates installation and troubleshoots any problems with telematics devices
Participates in equipment demonstrations and assists with field follow-ups on new purchases
Complies and adheres to the Drug and Alcohol Compliance policy at all times
Manages multiple priorities flexibly within tight time constraints

Previous experience in managing multiple mechanics
Possesses experience in shop management and technical support

Movement Requirements: Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, balancing, climbing, and reaching above shoulder level; occasional sitting and twisting as required.
Minimum of 15 years' experience in equipment/shop management
Exemplifies strong integrity, fairness, and reliability
High School Diploma or GED is required
Knowledge and understanding of operation of various types of heavy mobile equipment
Familiar with rules and regulations of associated unions preferred
Maintains a high degree of accuracy, thoroughness, and attention to detail
Individual will be working in a shop and field environment, including outdoor weather conditions such as extreme heat or cold, rain, snow, dust, wet surfaces, uneven terrain, and standing on concrete, occasional work in confined or elevated spaces.
