  • Provides key trending and analysis of safety performance to inform leadership and to make data driven decisions for improvements.
  • Responsible for Corporate Health, Safety, and Product Stewardship budget, performance to plan, and reporting.
  • Performs management functions requiring planning, evaluating, organizing, integrating, communicating and coaching.
  • Achieves results through collaboration with senior executives, peers and subordinates.
  • Drives hazard identification, risk understanding and reduction efforts utilizing the Hierarchy of Controls.
  • Supports employee engagement at all levels regarding health and safety initiatives.
  • Leads and represents the health and safety team and is required to give presentations to large groups during company Town Hall meetings, the Executive Leadership Conference and other business unit meetings.
  • Oversees the product labeling review committee and process for the company's products.
  • Manages the Industrial Hygiene function which is responsible for anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling workplace conditions that may cause workers injury or illness.
  • Provides sites with technical support, expertise, direction, leadership, planning and prioritization to achieve health and safety objectives.
  • Oversees effective corrective actions following injuries and near misses.
  • Identify and promote best practices.
  • Manages the Occupational Health function which is responsible for injury/illness prevention, compliance with health-related standards, providing prompt medical treatment, when needed, workers’ compensation reporting and OSHA recordkeeping.
  • Establishes and coordinates the overall company philosophy, strategy, policies and organizational priorities for Health, Safety, and Product Stewardship. Ensures activities of the organization are carried out and are consistent with company, local, state, federal and international laws, regulations, requirements and adopted voluntary standards.
  • Mentors and develops EHS staff.
  • Responsible for performance evaluations, pay reviews, hiring, and terminating.
  • Defines the need for and develops safety policies, practices, procedures and training as well as related processes, systems and metrics within a management system (e.g., ANSI, ISO). Ensures standardization across business units, where practical.
  • Leads the development and implementation of strategic action plans and tactical measures to reduce or eliminate risks that lead to employee injuries/illnesses and to protect company assets and reputation.
  • Practices continuous improvement to ensure the company is utilizing the most up-to-date, and recognized safety methodologies, processes, and tools. Looks for ways to simplify activities for plant personnel.
  • Ensures systems are in place to address and monitor compliance on a regular basis.
  • Actively participates as a member of the Manufacturing Council to drive improvements and influence the organization across business units.
  • Ensures regulatory compliance of all JM products by overseeing the product stewardship function which works to gather, interpret, and communicate regulatory compliance of products to support JM strategy of growth in global markets.

  • Moderate travel required (approximately 35-50%) including occasional international travel.
  • Demonstrated ability to interface with regulatory agencies (OSHA, State level, offices of EPA related to product issues, China, ECHA and other EU and member state levels).
  • Bachelor of Science degree in occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene, environmental science, or closely related discipline. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Ability to manage a dispersed staff of salary employees, set direction and deploy resources.
  • Proven execution and strong planning and organizational skills. Demonstrated experience in successfully managing projects and processes within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with global health and safety programs. International experience a plus.
  • Certifications in health and safety preferred (e.g., CIH, CSP).
  • Significant knowledge of regulatory and consensus standards related to health and safety, including OSHA recordkeeping.
  • Ability to learn new concepts and skills as they relate to risk and injury reduction.
  • Proven leadership skills which have positively impacted health and safety performance including meeting regulatory standards and reducing risks.
  • Ability to work with all levels of the organization and influence stakeholders without direct line of reporting.
  • In-depth knowledge of health and safety management, regulations and standards.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Experience working within an EHS management system (e.g., ISO 45001)
  • Ability to direct teams as well as manage and develop EHS professionals. Experience managing EHS professionals in a matrixed environment.
  • Minimum of 15 years relevant experience, including experience in a manufacturing environment (preferably a global company).
  • Ability to analyze trends and recommend pragmatic solutions to reverse trends leading to injuries.
