The Principal Architect role is based onsite in Birmingham, AL, and serves as the senior technical authority for power‑generation projects, responsible for defining system architecture and ensuring technical excellence from concept through commissioning.
In this position you will present project designs to leadership, incorporate stakeholder feedback, and advocate sustainable design practices. You will review building plans for aesthetics, environmental impact, code compliance, and accessibility, conduct research, and develop designs that meet client needs, financial constraints, and regulatory requirements. You will produce schematic designs, design development, and construction documents using Revit, ensure cross‑discipline coordination, and collaborate with consultants and internal teams to maintain model integrity.
You will also support the development of site‑wide infrastructure such as utility substations, fiber networks, and mechanical systems, contribute to modular and scalable prototype designs, define architecture across electrical, mechanical, civil, and controls disciplines, ensure compliance with utility and industry standards, lead equipment selection and interconnection coordination, and act as the primary technical liaison with owners, EPCs, OEMs, and utilities. Managing technical risk, constructability, and value engineering, providing support during procurement, construction, and startup, and mentoring senior engineers are also key responsibilities.

- Review building plans and site layouts for aesthetics, code compliance, accessibility, and environmental impact.
- Research and develop building projects based on client needs, financial constraints, and regulatory requirements.
- Produce schematic designs, design development, and construction documents using Revit with cross‑discipline coordination.
- Collaborate with consultants and internal teams to maintain Revit model integrity and ensure project delivery.
- Support site‑wide infrastructure development, including utility substations, fiber networks, and mechanical systems.
- Contribute to modular and scalable prototype designs for rapid deployment across multiple sites.
- Define and oversee system architecture across electrical, mechanical, civil, and controls disciplines.
- Ensure compliance with utility, regulatory, and industry standards (NERC, FERC, NEC, IEEE).
- Lead equipment selection, design reviews, and interconnection coordination.
- Serve as primary technical liaison with owners, EPCs, OEMs, and utilities.
- Manage technical risk, constructability, and value‑engineering efforts.
- Provide technical support during procurement, construction, and startup phases.
- Mentor senior engineers and establish engineering standards and best practices.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture, is a registered architect or working toward licensure, and has at least 10 years of experience in industrial, commercial, or infrastructure projects, preferably in EPC environments. Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, BIM tools, and strong knowledge of zoning laws, building codes, and construction procedures are required, along with excellent communication, presentation, and problem‑solving skills.
- Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture from an accredited university.
- Be a registered architect or actively pursuing licensure.
- Possess at least 10 years of architectural experience in industrial, commercial, or infrastructure projects, preferably in EPC environments.
- Demonstrate proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, BIM tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Have strong understanding of zoning laws, building codes, and industrial construction procedures.
- Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, and problem‑solving skills.
