Senior Cost Manager / Quantity Surveyor - Data Center Construction

The firm is hiring a Senior Cost Manager/Quantity Surveyor to serve as the primary client interface on a large‑scale, mission‑critical data‑center programme. The role is responsible for ensuring delivery on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards, emphasizing governance, commercial rigor and stakeholder engagement.

In this senior position you will lead cost planning, reporting and control, drive procurement and commercial negotiations, manage change orders and final accounts, and integrate cost data with schedule and scope. You will also mentor junior staff, uphold internal delivery methodologies, and may have SOX control responsibilities.

• Develop and maintain detailed cost plans and estimates throughout design and delivery phases.
• Produce and present monthly cost reports, executive summaries and funding data to stakeholders.
• Coordinate cost information from design teams, contractors, subcontractors and vendors for validation and auditing.
• Compile built‑cost records for benchmarking and continuous improvement.
• Lead procurement strategy, pricing reviews, scope validation and commercial negotiations to achieve fair contracts.
• Manage final accounts and ensure timely agreement of contract settlements.
• Own change control process: review, estimate, negotiate, reconcile change orders and post‑contract cost variances.
• Support cost risk analysis, scenario planning, contingency management and commitment tracking.
• Implement robust cost control systems, including Earned Value Management where applicable.
• Integrate cost data with schedule and scope, collaborating closely with project controls teams.
• Drive value‑engineering initiatives and cost‑optimisation strategies aligned with engineering priorities.
• Monitor market trends (escalation, labour availability, material pricing) and provide timely insights.
• Act as primary client interface, delivering service excellence and meeting client objectives.
• Mentor and coach junior team members to foster a high‑performance, one‑business culture.
• Maintain financial management excellence, tracking margins and forecasting fees and resources.

Requirements

Candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree in construction‑related fields and have 5‑7+ years of cost‑management or project‑control experience in mission‑critical environments such as data centres. Strong knowledge of MEP systems, budgeting, EVM, procurement strategies and commercial contract management is required; RICS accreditation is a plus.
