Outside Plant Inspector

Description

As an OSP Inspector you will maintain the integrity and quality of client network infrastructure, ensuring underground, buried, and aerial plant facilities meet regulatory and client standards. Your inspections, documentation, and issue resolution will support safe construction practices, protect assets, and drive project success, reliability, and timely completion.

The role involves verifying compliance of plant facilities through field inspections, audits, and pole transfers, documenting findings electronically or on printed spreadsheets, and using mapping/GPS technology to locate infrastructure. You will communicate with clients and vendors, collaborate with construction crews, travel to field sites (including occasional overnight stays), and keep thorough records; mileage reimbursement follows company policy.

• Verify client underground, buried, and aerial plant facilities comply with current standards through field inspections and contractor work verification.
• Conduct audits, inspections, and pole transfers, documenting findings electronically and, when needed, on printed spreadsheets.
• Use mapping/GPS technology to locate and confirm plant infrastructure.
• Communicate via email and phone with client and vendor management.
• Coordinate with construction crews, vendors, and client stakeholders to meet project expectations.
• Travel to field sites as required, including occasional overnight stays.
• Maintain comprehensive records of inspections, audits, and corrective actions.

Requirements

Candidates should have experience with NESC inspections or aerial cable line crew work, be proficient in OSP construction standards and the National Electric Safety Code, and possess skills in wooden pole ground line inspections, Microsoft Office, and mapping tools. Strong communication, organization, time‑management, and contractor‑management abilities are required, as well as a valid driver’s license and the flexibility to travel on short notice.

• Prior experience performing NESC inspections or serving on an aerial cable line crew.
• Experience conducting wooden pole ground line inspections.
• Proficiency in OSP Construction Standards and knowledge of the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
• Computer proficiency with Microsoft Windows, Excel, Outlook, and other Office applications.
• Familiarity with mapping tools such as Microsoft MapPoint (preferred, not required).
• Comfortable using the internet and web‑based applications.
• Strong communication, organization, and time‑management skills.
• Experience managing construction contractors in the field.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel on short notice.
