Performs sample handling in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations for environmental laboratories. Participates in documenting and performing tasks necessary to maintain the integrity of samples and support the analytical data.
- Assist laboratory purchasing agent in the receipt, storage, and delivery of laboratory supplies
- Assist laboratory in the disposal of cardboard boxes, bottles and other laboratory solid waste.
- Assists the Logistic Supervisor in sample pickup when necessary.
- When needed, assists the Sample Receipt Supervisor and Sample receiver with the sample receiving process. Continually aware of and meets holding time/commitments required by external and internal clients.
- Follow laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs) in the handling and disposal of samples and laboratory waste.
- Assists laboratory with glassware cleaning for all departments.
- Responsible for all non-reportable spill cleanup at ESS Laboratory. Handles spill cleanup in a timely fashion and notifies Laboratory Director and /or Operations Manager immediately.
- Works and communicates with personnel of own and other departments to develop a team approach to solve problems, improve efficiency, meet department and company goals, meet customer needs, and control costs.
- Accountable for accurate documentation in accordance with ESS Laboratory policy and SOPs.
- Assists field technicians with ISCO cleanup, bottle orders, and field sampling when necessary.
- Participates in the management of hazardous waste by ensuring hazardous waste is properly stored and disposed of. Directly responsible for sample dumping, weekly inspection of satellite containers and the drum storage area, and informing Metals Manager when drums need to be shipped. Assists in moving the drums to loading area for departure.
- Perform all responsibilities in a safe and responsible manner in accordance with ESS Laboratory safety policy. Maintains a safe and healthy work environment that is in compliance with the requirements of ESS Laboratory’s Health & Safety program (and local laws and regulations).
- Assists chemists and other technicians as needed.
- Perform sample custodial duties including, but not limited to: sample inventory upon receipt, sample storage, and sample disposal. Sample disposal is carried out in a timely manner to allow for storage capacity.
- Assists the Logistics Supervisor in processing customer requests for cooler kits and sample containers in a timely, cost effective manner. Cleans and stores coolers.
- Meets all quality criteria as specified in QA manual. Performs all quality control procedures as described in QA/QC manual.

Position is full-time Monday - Friday 8:00am-5:00pm Must live a commutable distance to N. Kingstown RI
HS Diploma or GED Equivalent
- Will need to wear a respirator for some aspects of this position. This will be provided.
- Attention to detail.
- Must be able to follow instruction and work under general supervision.
- Must possess a valid state vehicle operator license.
- Professional working proficiency in English is a requirement, including the ability to read, write and speak in English.
- Familiarity with laboratory QA/QC practices.
- Familiarity with computers is preferred.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check and negative drug screen
- Must be able to work in a fast paced, high-pressure environment..
- Must have the ability to operate a variety of assigned vehicles. F
- Excellent communication skills.
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship
- Possess an understanding of basic technical knowledge as pertains to assigned department.
- Must be able to lift 25+ pounds
- Ability to learn quickly.
- Will need to complete 8 ours of Hac Comm training.
