This role will be involved in the delivery of sharp techno-commercial solutions that will differentiate Ausnet’s commercial offering in the market as the energy partner of choice for renewable energy proponents and other market participants. The Senior Engineer will provide engineering and technical leadership to DFN’s Infrastructure teams through Project Development, Deal Execution, Preliminary Works, Project Delivery and Operation and Maintenance.

The Senior Engineer will play a pivotal role in driving ongoing transformation within the energy sector across both Victoria and interstate. They will provide expert guidance to the broader team, ensuring technical excellence, regulatory compliance, optimal performance, and value-for-money across all assets in our Contracted Asset Portfolio.

As a Senior Engineer this role will see you join a high impact Engineering team and provide engineering and technical support in the development and delivery of transmission substations projects. You will work with leading Renewable Energy and Data Centre Developers as well as major Design and Construction Delivery Partners to ensure projects are developed and delivered in a cost-efficient way and to high standards of quality.

  • Champion a safety-first, change-driven culture by advocating for WHS, cybersecurity, legislative compliance, and feedback-informed improvements aligned with AusNet’s values and health and safety targets
  • Lead continuous improvement by assisting with the development and refining of standards, specifications, and engineering practices, including process innovations and adaptation to digital advancements supporting the energy transition
  • Apply primary and secondary technical engineering knowledge to ensure efficient solutions can be reached on complex design projects
  • Promote innovation and cost-efficiency by identifying opportunities for value engineering and alternative solutions, while supporting constructability, operability, maintainability, and safety throughout the design process
  • Deliver expert engineering and technical support into projects across AusNet’s DFN Infrastructure portfolio, applying technical knowledge across brownfield and greenfield initiatives to drive efficient design and construction outcomes
  • Foster strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners, ensuring collaboration, compliance, and alignment with service levels, customer satisfaction, and company policies
  • Mentor and support peers, contributing technical leadership and knowledge sharing to less experienced engineers
  • Lead groundbreaking energy infrastructure projects involving extra high voltage systems—delivering real impact and purpose while enabling large-scale energy transmission that powers Australia’s clean energy future
  • Champion design excellence by actively participating in detailed design reviews, responding to Requests for Information, supporting tender evaluations, monitoring quality, and making informed decisions in collaboration with internal experts and external design partners

  • Proven capability in developing innovative concepts and delivering robust design solutions aligned with project requirements.
  • Strong track record of building and nurturing collaborative relationships across divisions within AusNet, as well as with external suppliers, customers, and regulatory bodies.
  • Extensive technical expertise and hands-on experience in electricity networks engineering, particularly in substations and terminal stations, across both project delivery and design roles.
  • 5+ years’ experience in Engineering within the utilities/energy industry and be a Registered Engineer in Victoria (RPEV) or currently working towards registration
  • Proven track record in project development and the delivery of high-quality technical design outputs that contribute to the successful execution of projects
  • Proven capability to translate conceptual plans into feasibility designs, delivering high-quality outputs such as drawings and detailed scopes of work
  • Demonstrated knowledge of primary and/or secondary electrical equipment as used in Terminal Stations and Substations in respect to their design, performance, functionality, operation and maintenance including layout, site selection and technical reporting rated up to 500kV
