The Assistant Underwriter will collaborate closely with underwriting specialists and other departments to deliver seamless service for large accounts, maintain accurate documentation, and participate in team meetings to improve processes. They will also engage with agencies, stay informed on industry trends, and provide expert guidance on systems and workflows.
- Conduct initial underwriting analysis and prepare detailed files for large accounts.
- Handle endorsement requests within delegated authority and recommend actions for out‑of‑authority items.
- Engage proactively with agencies on submission status and clarify endorsement intent or missing information.
- Partner with Large Account Underwriting Specialists and cross‑functional teams to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Maintain complete, accurate documentation in compliance with regulations and company policies.
- Participate in team meetings to review pipelines, share insights, and improve workflows.
- Build and nurture agency relationships through virtual or in‑person meetings.
- Stay updated on line‑of‑business strategies, regulations, emerging trends, and competitive insights.
- Deliver exceptional customer service, escalating complex matters as needed.
- Serve as a systems, workflow, and process expert, providing guidance and training to underwriting and ASR teams.

We are expanding our team with an Assistant Underwriter – Large Accounts who will support Large Account Underwriting Specialists in underwriting and managing complex commercial accounts across multiple lines of business. The role involves risk evaluation, policy structuring, and underwriting analysis to ensure profitable growth while maintaining strong agency relationships. This hybrid position is based in our Raleigh office at least two days per week, with three days of remote flexibility.
- Bachelor’s degree with 3‑5 years of underwriting support, insurance operations, or equivalent experience.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for collaboration with internal and external partners.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with underwriting software/systems.
- Experience with large Property and Casualty accounts, including products and policy processing.
- Excellent organizational and analytical abilities with meticulous attention to detail.
- Proactive, solutions‑oriented mindset capable of multitasking in a dynamic environment.
