Hydrovac Operator

Description

This position involves transporting, removing, delivering, and collecting both liquid and solid hazardous wastes from various customer sites. The driver is responsible for loading and unloading trucks and must be capable of operating a range of vehicles and equipment, such as vacuum trucks and box trucks, in compliance with licensing requirements.

• Oversee cargo handling, secure loads, and ensure compliance with regulations.
• Prepare equipment and apply safe practices.
• Manage government documents like manifests.
• Perform trip inspections to verify safety and roadworthiness.
• Comply with legislation on safe operation, hours of service, hazardous goods, customs, and dimensions.
• Maneuver trucks into loading/unloading positions following crew signals.
• Verify vehicle mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment before driving.
• Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage.
• Check load documentation for completeness and accuracy.
• Maintain logs of work hours, vehicle service, and repair status per regulations.
• Record and maintain driver logbook, bills of lading, manifests electronically or manually.
• Load and unload trucks.
• Conduct periodic inspections before, during, and after delivery to secure loads.
• Deliver products and paperwork to customers courteously and timely.
• Clean up debris from loading/unloading.
• Provide feedback to supervisors on customer, mechanical, or delivery issues.

Requirements

• Communicate effectively with public, customers, and co‑workers verbally and in writing.
• Minimum high school diploma.
• Certification from a recognized truck driving school.
• Valid commercial driver’s license.
• Strong mechanical aptitude for routine vehicle maintenance.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational abilities, task prioritization, multitasking, and time management.
• High personal integrity and strong work ethic.
• Professional demeanor under stress.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors.
• Manual dexterity; ability to lift 75+ lbs.
