The position requires conducting engineering analysis, researching white papers and manuals, organizing and facilitating meeting, presenting to technical and non-technical audiences, and documenting assignments. This position requires collaboration with other P&C engineers, other departments, contractors, and vendors.
General responsibilities include assisting in the development of P&C engineering standards, relay setting templates, record keeping processes, and engineering tools. The engineer will also participate in the evaluation of new vendors and technologies.
As a senior engineer, this position grants autonomy to propose solutions to open-ended challenges but requires the engineer to work mostly autonomously. The senior engineer is expected to lead engineering projects.
Active projects include engineering a pilot IEC 61850 process bus substation, evaluating Virtualized Protection Relays (VPR) and Centralized Substation Protection (CSP), evaluating new relay vendors, updating engineering standards, and writing conference papers

Ability to collaborate across departments.
Greater than 5 years’ experience in electrical substations, transmission systems, distribution systems operations up to 345kV, or protection and control design and construction.
Advanced theoretical understanding of electrical power systems which includes knowledge of fault calculations (short-circuit), symmetrical components, protective coordination, and the use of fault analysis software to perform system modeling, short-circuit studies and arc flash hazard analysis studies (AFHA).
Familiarity with Brownfield electromechanical relay substation
Experience with software such as ASPEN One-liner and SEL AcSELerator Quickset
Ability to interpret and follow a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Real Time Simulators
Customer Centric (internal and/or external)
Knowledge of various industry standards such as OSHA, IEEE, IEC, NFPA, NETA, and NERC.
Strong understanding of communication and SCADA protocols
Experience with AutoCAD
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or equal
FE Certification and/or Professional Engineer Certification (PE)
Familiar with NERC Reliability Standards, like the PRC’s
Advanced computer skills utilizing word processing, spreadsheets, email, facility control, management, and reporting systems. Must be able to use computerized diagnostic and troubleshooting tools.
Experience with relay test sets (specifically the Manta MTS-5100 Test Set)
Must work well under pressure from job demands, multi-tasking ability essential.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations.
Experience with relay/logic testing and field commissioning
IEC 61850 (GOOSE Data Models, Sampled Values, MMS)
