Work includes handling energized equipment up to 260 V, later assisting on >750 V with supervision, selecting and reading drawings, using voltmeters, ammeters, insulation megohms, and other test gear. Tasks involve disassembling and reassembling transformers, circuit breakers, portable substations, rotating machinery, air ducts, heat exchangers, and battery systems; installing conduit, pipe, cable, and wire; trenching, back‑filling, painting, and climbing structures. The role also requires visual inspections, gauge readings, start‑run‑stop tests on generators and pumps, reporting abnormalities, maintaining communications systems, and operating company vehicles and specialized equipment.
The posting covers two positions for McCamey/Ft. Stockton, requiring residence within the respective service territories. Employees will perform construction, maintenance, rebuilding, removal, operation, testing, and inspection of energized or de‑energized generation, transmission, and distribution facilities, and may answer emergency call‑outs to restore service. Supervision ranges from direct to general, with a qualified person defined as a Station Electrician or supervisor capable of emergency rescue.
Applicants need an associate degree in electrical, mechanical, or industrial maintenance technology, or equivalent military or recent utility experience. No prior work experience is required, but candidates must be willing to work overtime, call‑outs, and shift work, and must travel more than 50 % of the time. A valid commercial driver’s license must be obtained within the probationary period, and candidates must complete all required training to advance classifications.
The position demands heavy physical work, including lifting up to 75 lb to waist level, carrying 60 lb for 20 ft, climbing ladders over 50 ft and bucket lifts to 100 ft, and walking up to half a mile per shift. Employees must pass a Physical Abilities Test, discriminate colors, and possess rescue skills for steel and aerial lift situations.
The role is classified at grade N024‑V75 with a salary range of $34.96‑$36.12 per hour and is classified as heavy work (50‑100 lb force occasionally).
