Project Engineer

Description

• Perform all work in compliance with OSHA and H&K safety policies.
• Conduct site analyses to determine allowable density and layout constraints based on municipal ordinances and site characteristics.
• Develop horizontal and vertical street alignments and corresponding profiles.
• Create detailed grading plans for project sites.
• Design stormwater management systems following municipal ordinances and state best management practices.
• Design water supply and sewage facility layouts.
• Prepare erosion, sedimentation control, NPDES, and post‑construction stormwater management plans according to state regulations.
• Design utility layouts and coordinate utility plans for land‑development projects.
• Manage sub‑consultants such as geotechnical, wetlands, and traffic engineers.
• Travel to field, project, and township meetings to discuss design aspects with managers, officials, and clients, using a company vehicle as needed.
• Interpret and apply municipal land‑use ordinances effectively.

Requirements

The H&K Group, Inc. is seeking a Project Engineer to support civil engineering projects throughout Northeast Pennsylvania and the Lehigh Valley, focusing on Susquehanna, Wyoming, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Monroe, Carbon, Schuylkill, Lehigh, and Berks Counties. The ideal candidate is self‑motivated, organized, competent and professional, managing planning, design, and permitting for highways, subdivisions, and land development. Engineering experience with bridge projects is highly desired. The role requires strong knowledge of stormwater, erosion and sediment control, water and sewer design principles, and the ability to interpret and apply municipal land‑use ordinances.

• Write comprehensive narratives and various forms of project correspondence.
• Maintain a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience, and read blueprints and technical documents.
• Apply strong knowledge of stormwater, erosion, sediment control, and water/sewer design principles.
• Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Utilize MS Office, AutoCAD (Civil 3D) and Hydraflow software.
• Hold a valid driver’s license with a clean record and adhere to PPE requirements.
• Possess the physical ability to meet job‑related movement and lifting demands.
• Preferably have at least two years of relevant experience and familiarity with VTPSUHM.
• Preferably hold OSHA or other safety certifications.
