The Role

Overview

Oversee code compliance, plan reviews, inspections, and staff in building department.

Tasks

-Supervise building department staff. -Perform inspection support as needed. -Occasional lifting, carrying, or moving objects up to 25–50 pounds (e.g., inspection tools, plans, or small equipment). -Responsible for meeting all state and locally mandated code compliance and reporting requirements. -Use of hands and fingers to handle tools, operate inspection equipment, and use computers/tablets for reporting. -Serve as the primary liaison with our clients in this area and is responsible for ensuring that we deliver the highest level of customer service -Perform some plan reviews both commercial and residential in all trades. -Apply knowledge of building codes, policies, and procedures to the day-to-day functions of the building department. -Responsible for attending department and community meetings as required by the client.

What You Bring

-Be self-directed and self-motivated -Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, or unfinished stairways to access roofs, attics, crawl spaces, and other elevated or confined areas. -FL Building Official License -Ability to detect safety hazards and defects through visual and auditory inspection. -Frequent walking, standing, climbing, bending, stooping, crawling, or kneeling to conduct inspections. -Exposure to outdoor weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow) and construction site environments (noise, dust, uneven terrain). -Inspection and Plan review experience for commercial and residential structures. -Hearing sufficient to communicate with contractors, workers, and the public in noisy environments. -Client and team management experience in a building department setting -Visual acuity sufficient to read construction plans, technical documents, and observe construction details. -Be able to demonstrate extensive knowledge of local building code regulations, policies and procedures -Have solid computer skills and experience using MS Office programs -Experience supervising building department staff -Excellent verbal and written communication skills -Work performed in both office and field settings. -Frequent driving between inspection sites and company locations within a region.
