The technician will install and service special‑hazard systems, including head‑end equipment, detection devices, up to 4‑inch schedule 80 A53 piping, and distribution nozzles. Responsibilities include wiring terminations, programming releasing panels, door‑fan room integrity testing, conducting system tests and inspections, troubleshooting complex problems, and implementing corrective action plans. The role also requires responding to site delays, weather, or emergencies, investigating accidents or damage, following supervisor instructions, communicating with co‑workers, vendors, and job‑site personnel, planning and delegating work, and maintaining risk‑management and safety procedures on all job sites.
The Richmond, Virginia location is seeking a Special Hazards – Integrated Systems Technician. The role plans, directs, and coordinates activities related to the installation and service of integrated systems, overseeing project repair, testing, and completion. Integrated systems may include fire alarm, intrusion detection, access control, CCTV, IP cameras, networking infrastructure, telecom, bi‑directional antenna systems, distributed antenna systems, audio/video, nurse call, area of refuge, intercom, Crestron, Extron, Honeywell, Notifier, Gamewell FCI, Silent Knight, Fire Lite, Siemens, AutoCall/JCI, or RATH.
Applicants must have at least one year of experience installing, servicing, and troubleshooting detection components and agent distribution pipe networks for special‑hazard systems such as clean agents, engineered fire suppression, foam, or dry chemical. Required knowledge includes NFPA 2001, NFPA 12, the FSSA Pipe Design Guide, and NEC 70, as well as experience with Fike, Kidde Fenwal, Novec 1230, Inergen, or Ansul systems. Strong attention to detail, communication skills, the ability to follow and interpret equipment manuals, competence in reading electrical plans and schematics, reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to pass background checks are also required.
While not mandatory, candidates with experience or training in specialized special‑hazard systems, NICET I certification, or NAFED/FSSA certification are preferred.
VSC offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $29.00 to $39.00 and up, with overtime eligibility. The standard schedule is Monday‑Friday, with occasional evening, weekend, and out‑of‑town work.
