The intern will support the Policy Development team on projects that combine research and analysis, project‑management assistance, and stakeholder engagement. Focus areas are expected to include decarbonization of the building sector, electric‑grid flexibility, and societal benefit‑cost analysis. The role provides firsthand experience in policy development and planning for New York’s clean‑energy industry through participation in calls, meetings, workshops, and industry events.
Candidates must be graduate‑level students studying policy, public or business administration, engineering, economics, environmental science, or a related analytical field. Familiarity with clean‑energy and decarbonization concepts is required, with experience in the electricity or buildings sector preferred. Strong analytical, technical writing, and communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and the ability to manage multiple activities with speed and sound judgement are essential.
The internship is a paid position for current students at an accredited college, offering a pay rate of $18‑$20 per hour based on class year. It runs during Summer 2026, with the option to start in Spring 2026 and continue through Fall 2026 depending on availability and eligibility. Interns must reside in New York State or an adjacent state, follow NYSERDA’s telework policy, and work up to 18.5 hours per week during the semester and up to 37.5 hours per week between semesters.
