Test Technician

Description

• Perform routine maintenance tasks on protection and control equipment to ensure optimal performance and prevent failures.
• Perform routine and scheduled tests on protective relays, control circuits, and other substation equipment using specialized testing equipment to verify functionality and accuracy.
• Diagnose faults in protection and control systems, identify the root cause of issues, and make necessary repairs or adjustments.
• Adhere to strict safety procedures while working in high voltage environments, including proper lockout/tagout practices.
• Interpret test results, analyze data to identify potential problems, and generate reports for engineers and maintenance teams.
• Set up and test new protection and control systems during the construction or upgrade of a substation.

Requirements

• Expertise in using specialized testing equipment like relay testers, power quality analyzers, and communication test sets.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical preferred) OR Associate Degree in a Technical Field (Electronics, Electrical, Maintenance Technology, etc).
• Understanding of electrical power systems and principles of protective relaying.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and diagrams.
• Knowledge of substation automation systems (SCADA) and communication protocols.
