The Sr. Relay Technician performs and supervises electrical testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of relays in power stations. Duties involve using relay test equipment to test various relays within substations, analyzing protection schemes, and ensuring reliable operation of power system components.
Key responsibilities include leading safety briefings, applying Human Performance Error Elimination concepts, installing and commissioning control circuits, and developing project execution and energization procedures. The role also entails training junior technicians, acting as on‑site project lead, interfacing with customers, and conducting complex troubleshooting and root‑cause investigations.
Candidates must pass a pre‑employment drug screen and background check, hold a valid driver’s license, and be able to work overtime and travel. Required experience includes hands‑on installation, testing, and repair of protective relays and familiarity with relay test software; 5+ years in the industry and a bachelor’s, associate degree, military experience, or engineering degree are preferred, along with NETA III/IV certification.
