The role is responsible for the profitable operation and strategic development of our landfill business across the Southern Region. With a strong compliance foundation already in place, you will focus on optimisation, long‑term development and risk‑managed growth while sitting on the Southern Region senior leadership team with influence over strategy, capital planning and future expansion.
You will lead the safe, efficient and compliant operation of landfill assets, drive strategic development in partnership with the Regional General Manager, and ensure full compliance with EPA, legislative, licence and permit requirements. Managing consultants, contractors and tender processes, you will oversee landfill cell development, airspace planning and long‑term site sustainability, and identify and manage environmental and operational risks such as leachate, odour and cover management.
Financial responsibilities include preparing and managing operating budgets, capital expenditure submissions and post‑audit reviews, as well as setting pricing strategies to maximise market opportunities and customer outcomes. You will recruit, lead and develop employees and contractors to achieve high performance and safety standards, and liaise with internal stakeholders, regulators, customers and industry bodies.
We are recruiting an experienced and commercially minded professional to join our Senior Leadership Team as Landfill Manager, based in Victoria. This senior operational leadership role will oversee one of Heidelberg Materials Australia’s highest‑performing operations, the Wollert landfill, which is recognised for its exceptional standards and community engagement.
The ideal candidate has proven senior management experience in the landfill industry, strong technical capability—ideally with a civil engineering background—and a deep understanding of environmental regulation and compliance frameworks. Demonstrated financial and commercial acumen, experience managing contractors and complex sites, and the ability to lead teams, influence stakeholders and manage risk are essential.
We offer an attractive remuneration package, the opportunity to shape the future of Heidelberg Materials’ landfill operations, and a career path within a growing global organisation that values expertise, long‑term capability and development. Heidelberg Materials is an equal‑opportunity employer with more than 4,000 employees across 300 Australian sites, a commitment to sustainability, carbon‑neutral goals and a diverse, inclusive workforce.
