Inspect, salvage and repair a variety of castings. Fabricate major repairs such as rebuilding flanges on EJB and EBM castings and repairing mis‑drilled holes. Work with other departments on QC checks, possible repairs and problem solving for casting issues. Make minor repairs, including welding, that can be brought to the weld booth. Using fixed and variable gauges and visual inspection, check for defects such as thin walls, thin lips, core shift, flow holes, misruns, and strains to ensure prescribed quality standards.
Weld using electric arc, acetylene, and heli‑arc equipment following standard methods utilized in the Aluminum Foundry. Set up and operate a CNC saw. Perform Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) activities such as cleaning, inspection, minor lubrication and tightening loose bolts. Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and administer the 5‑S system. Follow prescribed safety regulations.
A minimum of three years welding experience is required, with five years preferred. Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED, or an apprenticeship combined with a two‑year technical college education. Use advanced shop mathematics and interpret complex drawings, specifications, charts, tables, and adjustable measuring instruments. Only applicants residing within 50 miles of Syracuse, NY will be considered, and no relocation benefit is offered.
The position involves exposure to heat, fumes, noise, grit and other challenging conditions. Ability to work in such environments is essential.
