The role involves semi‑skilled and skilled tasks in operating and maintaining water plant systems, supporting new facility start‑ups, assisting fellow operators, and participating in daily activities such as monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing water production and treatment processes. Reviewing lab analyses and SCADA data will guide process control to ensure efficient and compliant performance.
Candidates must be comfortable working with chemicals such as chlorine gas, sulfuric acid, ferric chloride, sodium hydroxide, sodium hypochlorite, and polymers, and must be able to perform hands‑on work that supports essential community services.
Successful applicants will have experience with computers and data‑collection software, hand and power tools, and a solid understanding of water‑treatment processes, including evaluating chlorine residual, pH, color, and nitrate levels. They should also possess knowledge of electrical, mechanical, chemical, and confined‑space safety practices, and be able to read water‑facility plans, complete paperwork, and communicate courteously with customers.
Operator II candidates need at least 2 years of water‑facility operation experience and an ADEQ Grade 2 Water Treatment or Distribution certification; Operator III candidates need at least 3 years of experience and an ADEQ Grade 3 certification. All candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid Arizona driver’s license, and be willing to obtain a CDL with Hazmat endorsement.
The position requires reliability, self‑direction, and the ability to work rotating schedules, including on‑call duties roughly one week per month. Employees must be able to lift up to 70 lb, work outdoors in extreme weather, and safely operate company‑owned vehicles and equipment such as forklifts and powered lift gates.
