2nd Shift Diesel Mechanic

Description

As a Diesel Mechanic you will service Silvi’s fleet of mixers, heavy equipment, and Class‑A trailers, ensuring safe and professional operations.

• Maintain a safe and professional working environment.
• Diagnose and perform preventative maintenance on heavy‑duty diesel vehicles and equipment.
• Remove, repair, rebuild, or replace engines, transmissions, axles, and related sub‑assemblies.
• Perform electrical work, including wiring, starter rebuilding, and sensor adjustments to meet clean‑air standards.
• Diagnose and repair computerized fuel management, ignition, and engine timing systems.
• Change tires and weld broken assemblies or parts as needed.
• Properly use, store, record, and safeguard tools, parts, and supplies.
• Keep the shop and work area clean and organized.
• Prepare reports of time, materials, parts used, and work completed.
• Utilize diagnostic equipment and respond to road service calls using a company vehicle.

Requirements

The role requires frequent standing, lifting 50‑100 lb, and performing tasks such as kneeling, bending, and using hand tools. Ability to perceive sounds, colors, and details at close range is required.

• Minimum three years of diesel fleet repair experience in a medium‑to‑large company.
• Valid driver’s license; CDL (A) and PA inspection license (A+) preferred.
• Working knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Ability to read maintenance manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
• Familiarity with OSHA and DOT safety regulations.
• Strong problem‑solving, analytical, and customer‑service skills.
• Ability to work independently and demonstrate urgency and ownership.
• Certifications in air‑conditioning/refrigeration and federal DOT brake adjustment preferred.

Benefits

The position is Diesel Mechanic on the 2nd shift (4:00 pm‑12:30 am) at Silvi Materials in South Plainfield, NJ. Pay rates vary by mechanic ranking: $42‑46/hr for A, $34‑42/hr for B, and $27‑34/hr for C. Signing bonuses are $15,000 for A, $10,000 for B, and $4,000 for C, paid in installments.
