Manager, Solutions Development & Engineering

Description

The Manager, Solutions Development & Engineering leads internal and external teams in designing construction‑ready solar, energy storage, and vehicle‑electrification projects. The role ensures quality‑control processes, validates engineering principles throughout development and active project stages, and serves as the authority on design‑change decisions and risk mitigation related to contractual obligations.

• Serve as the engineering leader and technical expert for projects in the East Region.
• Answer questions and resolve issues brought forth by the engineering team members.
• Create detailed engineering plans, processes, and procedures for engineering staff to use and abide by.
• Perform job walks to gather site‑specific project information, including electrical switchgear details, potential areas for solar/storage/EV chargers, and identify potential issues.
• Propose and oversee budgets and timelines for DER projects.
• Check and confirm the accuracy of work performed and methods used by engineering staff.
• Conduct various tests and quality‑assurance checks to verify project quality, capture lessons learned, and drive continuous improvement of designs.
• Monitor and determine staffing and training needs.
• Hire, train, and supervise engineering staff members.
• Spearhead research and development initiatives to identify opportunities for new projects and improved processes.
• Communicate and collaborate with other managers, sales executives, suppliers, and contractors.
• Prepare and deliver engineering‑related presentations both internally and externally.
• Prepare and deliver budget proposals.
• Directly supervises employees in the Engineering and Development department, handling interviewing, hiring, training, work assignment, performance appraisal, rewards, discipline, complaint resolution, and compliance with company policies and applicable laws.

Requirements

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis.

• 10+ years of engineering experience, ideally in a management role in the Distributed Energy space.
• Analytical and mathematical mindset capable of evaluating and solving complex problems.
• Leadership skills necessary to manage and develop a team.
• Self‑motivated attitude with the ability to multitask and thrive in a timeline‑driven environment.
• Interpersonal communication skills with expertise in distilling complicated topics to a broader audience.
• Ability to work individually or as part of a team.
• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• Continued education and trade‑certification sponsorship for specific positions.
