The manager provides overall project leadership during the design phase, overseeing customer experience, financial performance, schedule, estimating, design, and planning to enable a smooth transition to construction. Responsibilities include establishing and managing budgets and scopes, creating and supervising schedules, obtaining regulatory approvals, preparing bid packages, resolving technical design issues, and acting as the primary point of contact with owners, architects, engineers, and trade partners.
Mortenson is seeking an experienced Design Phase Manager II to lead design efforts while interacting with staff at all levels in a dynamic environment. The role demands flexibility, resourcefulness, proactive problem‑solving, professionalism, and confidentiality, ensuring the owner's vision is translated into design solutions and construction parameters.
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Estimating, or a related field, and have a minimum of eight years of relevant experience. Required skills include strong teamwork, initiative, communication, problem‑solving, leadership, detail orientation, basic knowledge of construction law, intermediate Microsoft Office and project‑management tool proficiency, and the ability to travel up to 100%.
The compensation range is $132,100 – $198,200, with higher ranges for certain locations, plus eligibility for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
