The Field Engineer provides line and grade layout support for construction projects, planning and directing crews to accurately locate points, elevations, lines, areas, and contours. The incumbent works closely with the Project Manager, Project AGS, Superintendent, laborers, and other skilled personnel to ensure successful project completion and closeout.
Key duties include researching existing survey data, establishing survey control, operating total stations and level lasers, laying out structural elements, providing elevation benchmarks, and maintaining detailed records of embeds, anchor bolts, and slabs. The engineer also coordinates findings with engineering, architectural staff, and clients, mentors junior staff, and ensures confidentiality of company information.
- Research previous survey evidence, maps, physical evidence, construction documents, and other records to obtain data needed for layout.
- Determine methods and procedures for establishing or reestablishing survey control.
- Provide control lines for all TAS crews and lay out edge forms, columns, cast‑in‑place walls, footings, piers, anchor bolts, embeds, scaffolding, and shoring.
- Provide elevation benchmarks and elevations on decks, edge forms, columns, walls, sidewalks, and site work.
- Check plumpness of all columns and walls prior to concrete placement and plumbing after placement.
- Verify deck elevation prior to concrete placement.
- Keep accurate notes, records, sketches, and as‑built documents for locations and elevations of embeds, anchor bolts, and elevated slabs.
- Provide own transportation if assigned.
- Coordinate findings with engineering and architectural personnel, clients, and others concerned with the project.
- Study and utilize architectural, structural, civil, and shop drawings.
- Keep, wear, and carry necessary tools at all times (not in vehicle or gang box).
- Help other crews when job functions permit.
- Mentor and train the eye man.
- Maintain confidentiality of all proprietary, confidential, or trade‑secret information belonging to the company.
- Be responsible and accountable for personal safety.
- Be responsible and accountable for the safety of co‑workers and any other incumbents encountered.
- Stop work on any task whenever an unsafe condition or situation is anticipated or observed.
- Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, company policies, and procedures; subject to disciplinary action for non‑compliance.

Applicants must have at least three years of experience, preferably in concrete construction, and demonstrate strong problem‑solving, algebra and geometry skills, and proficiency with Microsoft Office and PlanGrid. Excellent customer service, organization, communication, and the ability to learn technical aspects quickly are essential.
The position requires the ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation, wear required personal protective equipment, and respond calmly to emergencies, including timely evacuation. The engineer must identify critical issues and develop action plans with management at all levels.
